Moving Forward with Gratitude

Three words spring to mind when summing up 2022: Relief, determination, and most of all: gratitude.

I’m so relieved that voters turned out and “fought for the soul of our country” to quote President Biden—and I’m so proud of the role CCAH played in helping to hold and strengthen the U.S. Senate and reelect so many House members and governors through our partnerships with the DSCC, EMILY’s List, and DGA.

In the face of unprecedented voter-suppression tactics, our partners at Legal Defense Fund made sure that Georgia voters turned out like never before to reelect Sen. Raphael Warnock. We bucked the history that said a president’s party can’t win in his first midterms. Democrats strengthened their hold in battlegrounds like Arizona and Michigan and Pennsylvania.

But not all was celebratory in 2022. The Supreme Court gave American women a true gut punch when they overturned Roe v Wade, and that’s when my determination kicked in as never before. We’ve been in the trenches protecting reproductive freedom for decades, and as we proved since Roe’s demise in June, we won’t sit back and take it, we will dig in and we will keep going.

After all, that is the core of what we do at CCAH: we keep pushing forward.

That’s the message I’ve always tried to communicate to my daughter—now a teenager facing a very unpredictable future because of the politics in this country. But here’s what I know: hers is arguably the most enlightened generation when it comes to accepting people as they are: gender identity, body image, LGBTQ+ equality … they are open-minded and curious people.

And with her generation already taking up the mantle for reproductive freedom, climate action, gun control, income inequality, and so much more … I am filled with gratitude and tremendous hope for what’s to come.

As we ring in 2023, I am grateful for my family, my MissionWired and CCAH colleagues, our indefatigable clients, and this crazy, polarized, unpredictable, wonderful country.

I’m looking forward to working with all of you in the new year, to continue to right our society’s wrongs, to advance justice and equality, and to help everyone live the lives they want to live. I’ll close with one of my favorite quotes:

Rookie of the Quarter: Alexandria S.

That’s why each quarter we like to recognize one of our newest employees who is helping move us toward our goals and continuing our push for progress. Our Rookie of the Quarter award is given to an employee who has started their CCAH journey in the past year and has shown their willingness to go above and beyond. They are nominated by the CCAH management committee (our partners, VPs, and president, Kim Cubine), and they exemplify CCAH’s commitment to progress.

This quarter, we are recognizing Alexandria S.

Alexandria started her career at FRIDA – The Young Feminist Fund, where she led website communications for one of the world’s largest grant-funding feminist organizations. The experience inspired her to launch her own website and initiative, YoungBlackFeminist, dedicated to discussing the latest pressing issues in racial justice and women’s rights activism. Alexandria then broadened her writing career into brand communications work for a wide range of start-ups, which honed her writing skills as she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. After graduating university, Alexandria returned to activism-themed writing and dived into the world of fundraising copywriting at CCAH!

After work, you can find her singing any song she can get her hands on (from opera to Beyonce), reading a good book, enjoying nature, and hanging out with friends and family.

We are proud to have Alexandria as part of our CCAH family and cannot wait to see what comes next. Congratulations on being our Rookie of the Quarter!

Rookie of the Quarter: Jacob S.

Our Rookie of the Quarter award is given to an employee who has started their CCAH journey in the past year and has shown their willingness to go above and beyond. This quarter, we are recognizing Jacob S.

Jacob began his professional career as a part-time editor, touching up essays and applications for people applying to both undergraduate and graduate schools. Editing these essays gave Jacob his first experience with creative work, and it helped teach him the best ways to collaborate with clients on creative projects. After graduating from William and Mary with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Jacob applied for a summer internship at CCAH, which turned into a full-time job as an account representative!

In his spare time, Jacob enjoys all things outdoors (especially canoeing and kayaking), football and hockey (watching, not playing), and cooking new recipes.

We are proud to have Jacob as part of our CCAH family and cannot wait to see what comes next. Congratulations on being our Rookie of the Quarter!

Rookie of the Quarter: Linsey P.

This quarter, we are recognizing Linsey P.

Linsey comes from a digital marketing and special events production background with over six years of experience working with nonprofits and institutions for change. Her strategic communications initiatives for trailblazing organizations such as the Wall Street Journal, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, the Center for American Progress, DC Office on Aging, George W. Bush Institute, and Winrock International have assisted philanthropic and humanitarian efforts around the world, creating experiences that elevate brands, establish connections, and inspire action and change. Starting at the grassroots level during her time at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Virginia, her work has focused on spreading awareness and maximizing fundraising efforts for various global issues she’s passionate about, including combatting climate change, protecting marginalized communities, and promoting public health initiatives.

Her background in implementing commercial advertising strategies and firsthand practice working with nonprofits allows her to combine a zeal for humanitarian work with her extensive knowledge and professional experience to ensure campaigns are managed effectively and advertising dollars are spent efficiently, without compromising the organization’s mission.

In her spare time, Linsey enjoys cultivating her green thumb, winning your money in fantasy (football and basketball), traveling for live shows/festivals, and obsessing over cats.

This quarter, we are recognizing Margaret Randall.

Margaret joined Chapman Cubine + Hussey as a senior designer with five years’ experience specifically in direct mail fundraising for non-profits. Graduating from the University of Connecticut with a Communications Design degree, Margaret found her “nitch” when she landed a job as an art director and designer for an agency in South Florida. Some of her job responsibilities included creating concepts and campaign materials for a broad variety of clients including The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and Grand Canyon Conservancy. Since coming to the CCAH, she works as both a print and lead digital designer and enjoys expanding her knowledge and bringing motion graphics to her digital work. To balance work and life, Margaret enjoys running, being active with beach activities, and of course spending time with friends, family and her doggies.

Rookie of the Quarter: Courtney Rojas

Our Rookie of the Quarter award is given to an employee who has started their CCAH journey in the past year and has shown their willingness to go above and beyond. They are nominated by the CCAH management committee (our partners, VPs, and president, Kim Cubine), and they exemplify CCAH’s commitment to progress.

This quarter, we are recognizing Courtney Rojas.

Courtney graduated from Old Dominion University in May 2018 with a digital marketing degree from the Strome College of Business. She previously worked within the IT industry, including work at a startup digital agency. Since coming to CCAH as a Digital Account Representative II, she has been able to help her clients, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, drive strategic online fundraising initiatives. You can find her throughout the day busy building out Facebook Ads, project managing, data reporting, and taking initiative through planning our internal events! Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family and being involved within her community, including serving as the keynote leadership speaker for the 2019 Prince William County Public Schools Student Leadership Conference.
